Matosinhos delivers final homes under the Recovery and Resilience Plan

Matosinhos City Council has handed over the final 105 keys to homes built under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, raising the share of public housing in the municipality to 6%.

Matosinhos City Council handed over, on Tuesday, according to Observador, the final 105 keys to homes, out of a total of 512 built under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), raising the share of public housing to 6%.

According to the mayor, Luísa Salgueiro, the municipality — in the district of Porto — now has six new neighbourhoods, representing an investment of 122 million euros in the rehabilitation and construction of new homes.

The mayor also highlighted what the new homes mean for the municipality: “Besides building these homes, we restored old buildings”. She added that some of the buildings that stood abandoned were bought by the council, giving a concrete example: “These buildings had a structure, they were abandoned shells in the centre of São Mamede de Infesta and stayed that way for decades. The council bought them and adapted the unit layouts, and we now have 105 homes and eight shops”.

Finally, she added: “RRP funding has ended, we are still waiting for national measures to launch a new phase of housing construction, but we have already awarded contracts for new construction because we went to the banks, we applied for a loan, we have the financial capacity, we applied for a loan, we are getting on with the work, and when national funding arrives we will already have work under way”.
